The UN (United Nations) has long ceased to be a humanitarian organization as stated in its constitution. This body has become over the years a front designed to legitimize and sanitize the most horrendous evil in the world, and the bloodiest actors, all of whom get a free pass from the numerous committees and councils designed to report and even prevent abuses and atrocities.
Let’s review some of the many absurdities committed by the UN.
In 2018 there was a conference with a good purpose called: “The Disarmament Conference” with the idea of reducing the amount and availability of access to weapons of mass destruction. Which was the country chosen to ascend to the presidency of that conference? The answer is Syria, yes Syria, a country that was responsible for the massacre and civil war of its population in which 400,000 Syrians died in cruel clashes. The massacres committed under the regime of President Assad are documented. How can it be that Assad, one of the biggest violators of human rights, is chairing a conference to discuss global disarmament?
How can it be that the UN Human Rights Council has never condemned countries that violate human rights such as Cuba, Pakistan, Iraq, China, Zimbabwe, Nicaragua, Turkey or Egypt among others? And what kind of resolutions regarding the promotion of human rights can we expect from the meeting of countries such as Venezuela, Libya, Qatar, Eritrea, Mauritania and Nigeria?
The UN Human Rights Council has a permanent agenda against Israel, where it is constantly blamed and where most of the condemnatory resolutions against the Hebrew state are taken. This committee meets and sets out every year to condemn Israel in five critical resolutions, while countries like Iran, North Korea or Belarus receive only one critical resolution. Since 2006, Israel was condemned nine times in addition to the 84 times it was condemned by this same body outside of special sessions. Syria received only five condemnations and none of them prevented Syria from chairing the conference on disarmament of massive weapons. Myanmar received three condemnations and some African countries received one condemnation. China which persecutes more than 1 million people belonging to the Muslim ethnic minority called Uyghur received no condemnation. Russia led by President Putin launched a tremendous war against Ukraine in 2022, persecutes political dissidents and murders journalists critical of its dictatorial regime but received no condemnation.
North Korea persecuting its own population also received no condemnation.
Kofi Anan former UN Secretary stated: ”States seek UN membership not to help spread human rights but to protect themselves against criticism of themselves or to criticize others”.
Let us now look at another important UN committee called “The Commission on the Status of Women” In Iran, women are forced to wear hijab (headscarf or veil) or risk being severely punished, beaten, imprisoned and even killed. Another country, Iraq, is ranked as the third worst offender on the global gender equality index. Ironically, that did not stop the Commission on the Status of Women from electing Iran to the Working Group on Communications on the Status of Women and choosing Iraq for the position of vice-chair of the Commission on the Status of Women, an important position involved in setting the commission’s agenda.
Which countries get a free pass without a single condemnation for their atrocious treatment of women: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen, Pakistan and the Republic of Congo.
Interestingly this commission constantly condemns Israel for the plight of Palestinian women. They try to hide the fact that Muslims and Arab countries are, in fact, among the worst global abusers of women and children.
More importantly, defaming Israel aims to divert attention from the real crisis of women’s rights in the Palestinian territories, where “honor killings” of women are commonplace and where the rape of a woman does not carry punishment for the criminal but for the woman who is very often killed to “preserve the honor” of her family in the Islamic tradition.
Condemnations of Israel are intended to obscure events such as a Palestinian television program that offered lessons on how a Muslim man should beat his wife according to Islamic Sharia law.
According to a study, 29% of Palestinian women reported having suffered some form of abuse by their husbands in 2019. Since 2015, only one country has been condemned by this commission: Israel, four times.
Let us recall that out of the 194 UN member countries 50 are Arab Muslim countries.
All the UN examples against Israel that I mentioned so far in this article were before October 7, 2023. With the beginning of the war in Gaza because of the atrocities and massacres initiated by the Palestinians of Hamas in Israeli territory against the people of Israel, the UN openly as expected supported Hamas in all decisions almost without considering the massacre and kidnappings committed by Hamas. UN Secretary General António Guterres in deplorable statements justified the tragedy of October 7 by the Islamic terrorist group Hamas, then he had to correct himself when he realized that he was in an embarrassing situation and his international image was in danger.
Another UN agency is: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) which has one central purpose: to support, legitimize and promote the lie that growing millions of so-called Palestinian refugees will one day flood into Israel to try to destroy the Jewish national homeland from within.
During the war in Gaza, abundant evidence of UNRWA support for Hamas has been found in public buildings, schools, kindergartens and hospitals that were officially used as a launching pad for rockets fired by terrorists into Israeli territory and where they hid arsenals of weapons.
Two things we know for sure: Hamas built over the last decade a huge network of tunnels spanning hundreds of kilometers with more than 5,000 entry points through the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations has a large number of employees (at least 13,000) operating in the Gaza Strip among the Palestinians.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres however claims that during all that time he had “no indication” that Hamas was digging tunnels and building who knows how many subway bunkers and command centers.
Of course, we know that Dujarric and his boss are lying on this one, not only because of the obvious, but also because UNRWA itself sounded the alarm about Hamas tunnels in 2017, and again in 2021 and 2022.
Incredibly, no fewer than 22 different UN organizations connected solely to the Palestinians operate in Israel. Of these, 18 have a physical presence. They work under the coordination of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), whose task is to work closely with the Palestinian Authority Government and other development partners to ensure that their work is aligned with the Palestinian Authority’s National Policy Agenda and deliver tangible results that enhance development for the Palestinian people.
In practice, the UNCT and its member organizations implement a significant part of their mandate by writing biased, tendentious and hateful reports on Israel.
The history of the United Nations’ anti-Israel bias against Israel is well known. It includes decisions such as the infamous 1975 resolution that equated Zionism with racism. The bias is so clear that it once caused Abba Eben, former Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations from Israel to quip, “If Algeria were to submit a resolution declaring that the Earth was flat and that Israel had flattened it, it would pass by 164 votes to 13 with 26 abstentions.”
